going from an office in são paulo to a fully remote team spread across like three or four european timezones meant the work day stopped being a shared block of hours and became a shared pile of documents instead. took me way longer to adjust to this than i thought it would ngl
the single most useful habit i picked up was writing decisions down like the person reading it would NEVER get to ask a follow up in real time, cause most days they literally couldnt. a vague async message costs you a full day of back and forth. a clear one just gets answered on the first pass, saves everyone a headache
overlap hours became precious instead of the default. we stopped wasting them on status updates (those went to writing) and saved them for stuff that actually needed a real synchronous moment. disagreements, unclear priorities, anything emotionally loaded enough that it'd read as cold or terse over text 🙃
